Policy

Inclusive Rural Systems & GESI / Gender Transformative

  • Ownership over attendance, programming must ensure target groups acquire tangible ownership of productive assets, tools, and governance roles, not just headcounts.
  • Broad rural scope, GESI integration applies equally across value chains, micro-enterprises, clean energy guilds, and water/health enterprises.
  • Intersecting vulnerabilities, project design accommodates the specific barriers faced by young mothers, unbanked household heads, rural youth, and PwDs.

Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse & Harassment (PSEAH)

  • Absolute prohibition, exchanging money, employment, goods, inputs, water access, or project services for sexual favors is strictly forbidden.
  • Ban on coercive power relationships, sexual relationships between GIDA staff/contractors and beneficiaries or vulnerable community members are strictly prohibited.
  • Safe physical & digital delivery, all field activities and distribution points must operate in physically safe, neutral, accessible venues.

Child Safeguarding & Protection of Minors (Under 18 Years)

  • Absolute protection, no staff member, consultant, or field partner may engage in child labor, physical punishment, or unmonitored contact with minors.
  • Youth enterprise safeguards, young participants in apprentice or green-skills training are protected from hazardous environments, financial exploitation, or safety hazards.

Dignified Communications, Media & Data Ethics

  • Informed consent, photography, video, or personal story collection requires voluntary written or recorded verbal consent via GIDA's official Informed Consent Form.
  • Dignified representation, all media must portray community members with agency, dignity, and respect.
  • Strict minor photography protocol, minors may only be photographed with explicit written guardian consent; images must never disclose identifying or location data.

Anti-Extractive Development

  • Fair value & data equity, community members are never treated as passive data sources; insights gathered are fed back in actionable, accessible ways.
  • Asset & local value retention, every initiative leaves tangible, locally owned physical, financial, or technical assets in the community at closeout.
  • Valuing rural time, participation in co-design or field trials is respected and appropriately compensated.
  • Zero "aid-washing", GIDA forbids performative projects designed solely for institutional overhead or donor photo-ops without long-term sustainability plans.

Immediate survivor-centered medical, psychosocial, and physical protection referral coordinated by the Field Protection Lead.

03 Within 48 Hours

Executive & Board Briefing

Formal escalation to the Lead – Inclusive Development and the Chief Executive Officer with zero identity disclosure.

04 Within 72 Hours

Donor / Funder Notification

Contractual formal disclosure to institutional donors and partners while safeguarding confidentiality.

05 Within 30 Days

Independent Investigation

Thorough inquiry completed by the Independent Inquiry Panel with conclusive action and policy remediation.

Vetting, contracts, and annual review.

Comprehensive background, reference, and criminal checks for all staff, consultants, and field enumerators prior to community engagement.

Binding Partner Addendum

All private-sector partners, construction contractors, sub-grantees, and research partners must execute the GIDA Code of Conduct as a non-negotiable condition of engagement.
